Expect this to go on for a while

I met the cutest couple the other day for their engagement shoot.
They've chosen one from the shoot to go onto their mounted signing board (But I won't show that one, it's a surprise :P)
We shot it at the church they're booked in to be married. Really excited for their wedding in June!

Expect most of my posts to be like this in the near future. Wedding season is upon us! Commercial and personal work takes a bit of a back seat during this time.

Busy busy!

Thanks,
Paul

Hairy Bikers

A bit more of a personal shoot today. I've no interest in bikes but it seems I know three people who are very different types of motorcycle enthusiast. So with my three new models I thought we'd get them a few nice portraits coupled with something I've never tried before (but always wanted to do).

Bike portraits! So, with the easy stuff over I climbed into the back of a VW and had a go at shooting out of the back.

Not the most comfy thing to do. Also, I didn't count on it being so hard to do! There's tons to think about and a bumpy road changes your conversion rate from 1 in 50 to 1 in 200, camera shake being the main problem. None of us were competent or experienced so we weren't comfortable moving at high speed. This meant my shutter speed at to be set lower to get a bit of motion blur. Also, shooting at 14mm meant the bikes had to be inches from the back of the vehicle and at 20-40mph we came close to a collision a few times.

I had dreams of attaching flashes to the side of cars and running a really elaborate lighting set up but considering our skill I figured we'd keep it as basic as possible.

Then for my something a little bit different. A bit of a failed attempt if I'm completely honest. I had this idea of a bike chase for a bit of fun but think I ran out of ideas after a long day and I'm also somewhat restricted by my post processing skill. It's unfortunate that the Harley Davidson couldn't stick around for very long either, it might have added to the story a little. Still, it's a step forward in my learning and a ton of fun! The lads seem to like them anyway :P

Comments and suggestions welcome :)
thanks!

Kan Kar Gal Sun

Two brilliant lads at Cloud 9 music made it to number 1 in the world charts today. It took only a single day for their song Kan Kar Gal Sun to get to the top.

We had some great fun in the studio making their cover and a few other promo images. Here's a few from the session.

Here's the trailer for their latest video!

Great lads, good luck!

Action Man

Aspiring model Steven came to me for a the regular portfolio boost but when I saw the kit he'd bought I realised the shoot was going to be a little different to the usual. So we went with it and this is what we came up with:

AAfter we managed to get him some more classic images :)

and something a bit sillier :P

Prabjot Kaur and Sanj

Another from my recent work with make up artists :) This time it was the lovely model Prabjot Kaur and exceptional make up artist Sanj Sandhu. Sanj came up with the concept and we came up with a location to realise it.

Another really fun day with loads of creativity with lots of ideas and some great additions to the portfolio :D

Fun with make up

Winter is coming to an end so I'm trying to get all of my non-wedding work out of the way before beginning of what is set to be a very busy summer. If you've read any of my previous blog posts you'll know I've tried to stay away from wedding photography over the Winter and concentrated a little more on portrait and commercial work. A couple of weeks ago a group of make up artists gave me a call to work on a few looks...

The first was by Harminer Kaur with model Raji Kular. I had a great time with these guys, it gave me a chance to work on a different style of photography I aim to bring into both my portraits and weddings this year.

Photo Party

As promised, I'm posting my images from the girls photo party from last week. My blog has been down over the past few days due to an unexpected hike in traffic but now it's been migrated to the google blogware platform so I shouldn't have any issues like before.

Anyway, here's a few from that session, it really was a hell of a lot of fun and from what I've heard from the parents the girls really enjoyed it. I hope they enjoy the images as much as they did the day itself :)

Loads more coming up in the near future. Lots of music shoots, make ups, weddings and new challenges ahead. I have to wait until the clients officially publish my work themselves before I can show them off but hopefully that shouldn't be too soon :)

As ever, let me know what you think in the facebook comments box :)

Too used to following the rules.

So I had a wonderful group of young ladies in a studio for a portrait session the other day. They were 11/12 years old, a group of lovely, bubbly girls celebrating a birthday with their parents in tow. At that age you're not sure how children are. On the cusp of being a teenager but still very much a child you don't know what to expect. After getting very giddy over make up with my wonderful make up artist and other teenage-girl type things I've never completely understood we had some fun shooting. Being young they're very inquisitive and it wasn't long before they wanted to have a go with the camera. I've no problem with that so while I took the weight of the 70-200mm 2.8 I let the girls snap off a few from each other. It immediately raised the mood of the studio and made everyone a little more comfortable but most importantly it produced a few interesting results. I let a Nikon D90 with a 14-24mm 2.8 loose around the room while I continued taking some singles as a test to see what they got. I'm sure Mum had a go too, I think she took the one at the top :)

Now don't get me wrong. I know they're not in focus, and the lighting was set up by me, and I've added a little colour but the framing is something else. I see a lot of these pano tilt/shift type photography shoots getting popular. To make the shift work the framing is always way off the rules and quite different. I enjoy them. I'm beginning to merge this style into my wedding photography but it isn't coming easy. I'm very used to framing shots in the 'correct(ish)' way but the girls, whose minds are relatively untainted from the rules of photography, have produced the little peaches above. I don't know if it was by accident or if their innocence allowed them to see something more than us photographers stuck in our ways - but I do know I have to break my mind away from the rules if I'm going to keep up with the current wedding photography trends. I'm scared to post my images from the session now. I suppose I have to. I haven't finished viewing all 700 of them yet so when I've finished I'll see how mine match up. Would love to hear what others think, leave a comment below :)

Thanks :D

Jim and Tracy - Quality Hotel - Hanley

Hey everyone, I've been so busy! It seems that, after getting Christmas out of the way, new couples are getting around to sorting their weddings out and I've been quite busy running around meeting a few of you over the past week. It's a great sign that wedding photography is still a priority on your minds. This is a subject that has been highly publicized recently with this recent article from rocknroll bride which went global in a day. There's a few more things to come in the next couple of weeks, but I can't talk about them yet because they're still "A1 top secret classified". Instead, I've finally managed to get round to uploading a few from Jim and Tracy's wedding a few weeks ago with their reception at the Quality hotel, Hanley. I must say, the guys at the quality hotel are really friendly and deliver a great service!
